Happy birthday to Silvia Venturini Fendi, the woman behind the ‘It-bag’

Inspiration can come at any moment. I am most inspired by situations- the energy that comes out of new encounters or an evening chat.
Silvia Venturini Fendi

Silvia Venturini Fendi, the girl who didn’t play by the rules – she travelled the world and met the father of two of her children in Brazil, where she lived until late 90’s, when she was invited by her mother and no less than Karl Lagerfeld to head up Fendi’s accessories – is our birthday girl today!

The creative director for accessories & men’s, started working for the family at the age of eight, wrapping the yearned for gifts of Fendi lovers in the department store at Christmas time. She’s the sole Fendi family member still involved with the house, founded in Rome in 1925 by Edoardo and Adele Fendi.

Her first accessories success came in 1996 with the Fendi Baguette, the innovative under-the-arm handbag that was the first bag ever to attract a waiting list.

Just to clarify: it is me the designer! But I read of many people who claim to have invented them because they were in the company at that time – in the near future even the pony express will claim the fatherhood – while for my other less fortunate models nobody says: “They’re mine!'”.

The creative director of Fendi accessories & men’s is also the President of AltaRoma, an institution through which she wants to bring the Italian couture to the glories of the past.

Happy birthday Silvia!
