Barbara Millicent Roberts, for most people just Barbie, the iconic doll that every girl has owned.
This beautiful doll tells the story of an ageless girl who has managed to knock down every kind of barrier in the last 56 years: cultural, social, linguistic and anthropological, representing more than 50 different nationalities and over 150 careers. This global icon is now celebrated in an exhibition at the Complesso del Vittoriano: five sections of fashion and history told through a selection of dolls.
The exhibition starts with an introductory room called Simply Barbie.
The very first section, From Teenage Fashion Model Doll to Fashionista. A fashionable doll, is dedicated to a key aspect of Barbie’s life: fashion.
The second one, I Can Be. Barbie Careers, exhibits a collection of international careers that have inspired generations of little dreamers to explore a world where “Anything is possible”.
The third section is called Barbie’s Family and hosts a reconstruction of Barbie’s house. Children can explore the rooms where Barbie lives and experience her way of life.
The fourth section, Travelling Barbie, Dolls of the World shows the multiethnic variety of this doll’s story, paying tribute to the most original aspect of Barbie: the quest for a link between different cultures.
The fifth and last section is called Barbie Diva: a comparison between Barbie and many heroines of our days.
Come and discover the fantastic Barbie’s world, a world where everything is possible #youcanbeanything
